CHAMPIONSHIP OF AUSTRALIA. WON BY PEARCE. licecived May 30, 4.45 p.m. Sydney, May 30. Much interest was taken in the race between Thoroughgood and Pearce for the rowing championship of Australia. Thoroughgood won the choice of poll* tions. Pearce' went ahead after the firtt few strokes, and at the mile and a quarter Thoroughgood pulled up on his op-ponent,-but could not head him, Pearce going away again and pulling a faster stroke. Thoroughgood made desperate efforts to overhaul him, hut Pearce responded magnificently every time. H?, easily held his opponent to tie finish. The time was 21min. lOscs,
