PETROLEUM.

TARANAKI PETROLEUM COMPANY. The directors of the Taranaki Petroleum Company liave supplied us with the following report:The work preparatory to sinking No. 3 bore is being proceeded with, tlic.results so far being satisfactory. No. 2 bore.—Tile pump was taken out .on Monday. In lowering the sandpump an obstruction was eiicountere 1 about 150 feet from the bottom. A stone had dented the casing. This prevented the pump being lowered to the bottom for the purpose of removing the silt. It was found necessary to swedgc the casing out to admit the pump. The pump has now been replaced and pumpiiig operations will be resumed on Monday. There is no apparent diminution of the oil.

At a meeting of the directors last evening Captain Hood was chosen to lill the vacancy caused by the resignation of .Mr. Berry. Mr. (..', K KellriTiger was appointed chairman. A requisition was received from a number of shareholders, asking that, a special meeting of the company lie held. ]t was decided to comply with the request. The. date of the meeting will be duly notified.
