TARANAKI EDUCATION BOARD
The Education Board continued its meeting yesterday. The members present were: Messrs Jas. Wade (chairman), li. A. Adhun, J. D. Morison, H, Trimble, W. Rogers, W. L. Kennedy, 11. Faull, aud A Morton. TIifAXCY. On tile motion of Messrs Morton and Trimble, it was decided that where the Truant Inspector lias instituted proceedings against a parent for breach of tile Act, in tiio case of any child, he shall not be required to give any notice before any further proceeding i, taken against such parent, provided that a.icii second default in attendance shall have occurred within two years of the first proceedings. It was decided lo ask the teaeiier at Ruapuha to explain inaccuracies in the attendance returns.

THE GROWTH 01' ATTENDANCE. The Chief Inspector recommended that application be made to tile Department for additional accommodation at Awatuna school. There were 57 pupils on the roll, while there wa.s accommodation for barely 41.—Adopted; application will be made to the Department for a grant. Reporting upon the application of tne Franklev school committee for tne erection of a new senool, the Chief In-' spector staled that the accommodation | was barely sufficient to meet present roijiiiremi'iits, but as there was likelihood of an increase in the attendance when the winter months were over, he would recommend that consideration of the matter be deferred for a few mo.itiis ■when the Board would no doubt have a stronger case to place before the Department—Recommendation adopted. The Chief Inspector reported that the lease of the site for the Inglewood Technical school had been drawn up by t'je solicitor for the inglewood lio'rougli Council, and was ready for completion upon payment of £lO to the lessee who was surrendering the lease. The Chief Inspector reported that ill his opinion a tempo.,try scuool would meet the requirements at Oco. where the settlers asked for the erection of a school building.—The architect will be asked to supply plans !ind specifications for the temporary building-. The application uf the Warea committee for additional accommodation did not meet with the Inspector's approval. —Adopted.
HOUSEHOLDERS' MEETINGS. The Board's secretary, Mr K. Whitconibe, reported that at the annual meetings of householders, the following districts failed to elect committees: Egmont Village, Jluirangi, llurimoana, iHuiakama, Mohaku, Marco, Mangaehu, Okato, PikOj Pukearuhe, Punewhakau, Purangi, and Waihi. lie recommended further meetings of householders be held—Adopted.
GENERAL. The Inspector reported that Mr. It. McK Morison, the agricultural instructor, had telephoned in to know if the Board wished liim to visit the Palmerston Show thi* year. Last year he had done so, the Board paving his expenses. —The Board decided to repeat the experiment, Mr Morison to go if he thinks it necessary. Upon the motion of Messrs Morton and Faull, it was decided to inform the Bell Block committee that owing to the large amount of work which would require the foreman's attention for a con-j siderable time, tlicy could not allow liim ; to assist the committee in erecting the school shelter shed, but the architect's services wore at their disposal. Mr. (_'. Moore, working overseer, forwarded a comprehensive report upon numerous schools which lie had visited. —Members expressed .surprise at the large amount of repairs required at the various schools.—Mr Morton said the sensible nature of the report showed that the Board had selected a suitable man for the position.--The report was referred to the Chairman, who will have the most urgent worlw attended to. Future reports will come before the Finance committee in future.

to accede tu his request enquiring from the Secretary of the Wellington Education Board the reason for Mr, Turking-
ton leaving that Hoard's service. Messrs .Morton and TrimUe were appointed a committee to enquire into th charges brought against the teacher of the M allot 1 seliAol 'by the chairman of the school committee.
An application from the Teachers' lnstitut: 1 lor permission to house a library in the Board's oll'ices was refeired to the chairman with power to
act. The action, nf the chairman of the Pembroke committee in closing the school for a week up"n the occasion of the accidental death of the teachers child was confirmed. The next meeting <>f tin- Board will be held on 13th and Kith June, at the usual hours.
