Harle Giles, Conciliation Commissioner, presiding, in an endeavor to settle amicably th e dispute between the parties. This course li.iii been adopted on the suggestion of the Commissioner..

The Conference proceeded most amicably, and at five o'clock an agreement had been arrived at 011 all points but one. This referred to the price of beefkilling. The present rate of pay was Is 8d per head, and the employees claimed 2s', which they claimed was the rate ruling throughout the Dominion. This matter will bo- referred to thc Arbitration Court for settlement.

_ The Conciliation Council will meet at Xew Plymouth on Friday afternoon at 2.30 to ratify the arrangements entered into by the conference. At the conclusion ot yesterday's business -Mr. Bust, secretary of the Workers' Lnion, slated that he had a very pleasant duty to perform, and he felt he was voicing the sentiments of all concerned when he proposed a most heartv vote of thanks to Mr. Giles for the tactful, kind, and practical manner in which he had conducted the conference, with such successful issues to the parties interested. It was an unfeigned p!va-j ! sure to voice his union's implicit confidence in Mr. Giles us an ideal Com-1 I niissioner, and he hoped that all unionists would give him a fair trial and en-1 oeavor to strengthen his hands, I Mr. Croll, superintendent for Messrs] T. Borthwick and Sons, seconded the ; motion. He said he had the greatest ! pleasure in endorsing Mr. Bust's remarks, and lie sincerely hoped the unions of workers andtti e . emplovers would unite in recognising thc worth oi the Commissioner, and assist him in the performance of his duties. The motion was carried by acclamation. Mi. Oiles thanked tlio.-e present for their kindly sentiiw-nts, and for the conciliatory assistance rendered by both parties. It had been the most pleasant conference 011 a labor dispute that be had as yet presided over. The result of the day'.s sitting was a most agreeable surprise.
