EMPIRE DAY CELEBRATIONS.

By Telegraph.—Presa Association. Ashiburtou, Last Night. ' Celebrations in connection with Em-1 pire Day passed ofl" very successfully, the weather being line. A close holiday was observed by tradespeople. A procession of bands,' volunteers, fire brigades, | cadets', school children and a squad of 2i3 bluejackets from IT.M.S. Challenger inarched through the town to the Domain in the morning, and speeches were delivered there, the National Anthem also 'being sung, and the (lag saluted, etc. In the afternoon, children'* sports were held under the auspices ot the Patriotic Committee, aud .in the evening a monster no-license ratTv took place, the speakers being Mr. H. D. Bedford (Dunetfin) mid Kev. A. Dewndney (Wellington).

Napier, Last Night. Empire Day was observed as a close holiday in Napier, and there were good attendances at the football sports Napier, and the hockey tournament and foot-hall sports at Hastings. The contests at tiie Ilawke's Bay Hockey Assoannual tournament at Hastings resulted as follows:—Ladies' seniors w«m by rlive; todies' juniors won by Wapiti (Napier); men's juniors won by Matthews A (Hastings). The men's senior contest is unfinished, and lies between Zingari and Albion.
