CONSTABLES IN TROUBLE.
' ALLEGED ASSAULT. Br Telegraph.-Press Association. Wellington. Saturday. The hearing of the charges of assault against Gardiner ami Watson, the two constables, was' resumed in the Magistrate's Court to-day. Inspector Ellison, who conducted the'proseeution, said on the night of May 10 three constables in plain clothes' had a dispute, not of n serious character, and were scuffling. Rolfe remonstrated with defendants' Sir attacking the third constable, Clay, whereupon it was aliened that defendants struck Mr. and M-s Rolfe, ami knocked Mrs. Rolfe down. James Asbury and Win. O'Neill, set men on the steamer Knipnra, gave evidence that they saw defendants and Clay scuffling, and subsequently saw de. fendants striking at Mr. and Mrs. Rolfe As Mis'. Rolfe- was still unable to appear, the case was adjourned' till May 31sl, '
