STRIKING THE RATES. The Taranaki Countv Couneil held a special meeting vesterdav. Ail the councillors were present, and the chairbiuii, Mr. Jo.seph Brown. presided. It was decided to make and lew a general rate of three-farthings i„ 'the pound, and a hospital ami charitable aid rate of one-twelfth of a jiennv in the pound, to he calculated cu the capital value of all rateablp proportv n tlie Jloa, Waitara, and Oniata ridi'iiL's; and a general rate of a halfpenny' t.i the pound and a hospital and charitable aid rate of onertwelfth of a penny in the pound in the Hurworth riding; such rates to lie for the period commencing on the first dav of April. 1!K)». anil ending on the 31st ilav of Marcn, 11)10, and to he payable in one instalment on the Bth day of June, 1009.
