FOOTBALL.
OKATO v. KAHOTU. (From Our Own Correspondent.) The football season in the Western ; Division opened on .Saturday m:en Okato met Haliotu at ltaliotu. Neither side had its full team, ltaliotu being particularly weak, ltobiiuon captained Okato, and Martin, Rahotu. In tic first spell, playing with a strong wind Okato had all the-best of the game and scored throe tries, one the result of a pretty piece of passing between Corbett, Robertson, Ma lone and Sullivan, the latter scoring. Jilian and Robertson also scored. Robertson converted one try. In the second spell, Rahotu pressed Okato, and had haru. mek in not scoring on two or three occasions. From a penalty kick H. Martin landed 11 line goal, whilst a little later he converted a nice try scored by Tito. Just before time Julian scored a try for Okato and the game ended Okato 14, Rahotu 8. Mr J. Young made a capable referee. THE SATURDAY ASSOCIATION. A meeting of the Taranaki Guards was held last evening, for the purpose of forming a Saturday Football Clnb. The following officers were elected:— Patron, Colonel Okey; president, Captain Mills; vice-presidents, Major Malone, Sergt.-Major Sanderson, Captain Weston, Captain bellriiiger, Captain Okey, Lieutenants Boon, lieadle and Fletcher, Chaplain Spencer; team's delegate to Association, Corporal Green; club captain, Sergeant Evaus; management committee, Corporal Green, Privates Sturmey, J. Shearer, Rogers, Burrows, Stanley, Greenway, Drinkwater, and bandsman E. Steele. Corporal Green was elected secretary and treasurer, and Sergeant Arnold auditor, belcction committee, Bandsman Steele with the captain and vice-captain. The following members were elected: Greenway, Gurk, Crockett, Jennings, J. Sheans, Kisby, J. Skipper, Burrows, Stanley, Blyde, Drinkwater, Freathcy, Rogers, E. Steele, !R. Walsh, Ross, A." Coleman, J. Lowe, H. Shearer, Sole, Rturmey, T. Johnson, Bruce, J. Smart, W. Haskill, Skipper, G. Bell, Firmston, L. Clow, E. Clow. The subscriptions were fixed for the year: Honorary members 2s fid, playing members Is Od. The colors are to oe black. All intending players arc requested to meet for practice at 7.38 p.m. on Friday. THE ASSOCIATION GAME. Xew Plymouth v. Stratford is tilopening match of cup fixtures, to be played on Thursday at Stratford. Both teams will be well represented, and a keen struggle is predicted. The New Plymouth team will be represented by Hedley, Holmes, Colbeck, Lister (2), Elliot, Arthur, Bullott. Kenerley, Hartley, and Smart (captain). New Plymouth wear white sweaters and dark knickers. Team leaves by 12.50 train.' The following will represent Tukapa seniors against Stratford on Thursday: Clarke, Stolir (2). Barker, Mynott, Mason. F. Loveridge, T. Jones, Perry, Jull. Ward, Steele, Smith, F. Jones, McAllum. Emergency forward Oakes. Team will leave by the 12.50 train. Wellington senior matches last Saturday resulted as follow: IPetone, 6: Athletic 3. Poneke. 27; Old Boys, 0. Oriental. 25; Southern. 3. •Melrose. 18: St. James, 3. Wellington. 18; Victoria College, 0. Ohristchurch Matches.—Old Boys (3) beat Christchurch (nil): Albion (4) beat Canterbury College (nil); Linwood ((i) beat Merivale (3). Dunedin Matches.—Southern (fl) beat Dunpdin (nil); Alhambra (8) beat Taieii Rovers (nil); Kaikorai (5) beat Port Chalmers (4); Pirates (7) beat University (5);. Zingari-Richnioud (17) beat Union (nil).
