BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The Borough Council held a special last night, the Mayor presiding. The report of the Estimates Committee was considered and adopted, providing for power to overdraw at the Bank of New Zealand up to £11,700; that uhe Mayor and each of the councillors be empowered to countersign cheques; that the salary of Mr. W. Price and Miss Whitaker (in the Town Clerk'g office) be raised to £llO and £OO jper' annum respectively; that the annual allowance to his Worship the Mayor be £100; that the following subsidies be paid during the year: Hospital Board, £411; Eecreation Grounds Board, £150; Public Library, £200; Western Park, £SO; band, subject to concert 6, £l2; cemetery, £25. THE ESTIMATES. That the following be the estimated receipts and expenditure for the ensuing year:—
