TYPHOID OUTBREAK
STOBE CASES AT ALEXANDRA. By Telegraph.—Pre«s Association. Dunedin, Last Night. ' the typhoid epidemic at Alexandra is ■aot yet stamped out, and two more oases were reported on Saturday, one being a woman who gave birth to a «hfld three weeks previously and who Jiad not been outside her own premises since confinement. Ten cases have bee l reported, and one death has occurred. 3a»pector i Gladstone, of the Public Health Department, made an inspection on Saturday, and reported that all dairies except one were in a satisfactory condition. The surroundings of the suspected dairy were in a filthy conditio i, and it was believed that this dairy ■was the cause of the outbreak. Th) water-race from which the town supply ■was derived was. in a dirty condition. Two eases of diphtheria were also re- ., ported, and, in connection with this matter, inspector Gladstone advised that the' local sanitary inspector should insist on fowls being kept away from dwelling-houses, and on drains from houses being kept thoroughly clean. The local boroifgb council has decided to cany out a number of sanitary improvejnents recommended by the inspector. |
