The Tsar holds the record as palaceowner. He probably could not tell you at a moment's notice quite how many [dwellings call him master. They probably number ninety-three. Thirty-five thousand servants are their principal inhabitants, and of them all there are only thirty-two upon which their Royal master has so much as set eyes. The Tsar i e more fortunate than his Royal brother of Italy. His civil list being the largest in th e world, he can afford to keep up all these state'v home*. When the present King of Italy came to the tin-one, he found that is fifteen palaces and country houses swallowed two-thirds of his' £7(10,000 income. lie therefore proceeded to put up tov sal L , more than half his houses. The palaces at Genoa. Milan, and IPalermo. together with lialf-a-dozen great country house*, were all disposed of. Even now i,o has left four great palaces, the I Quirimil at Itome. and the palaces at Turin. Venice, and .Naples.
