They say that evidence concerning Azell's crimes is not admitted, and that the authorities are determined to prevent any light beinj thrown on the sinister doings of the secret police.

The double-dealing Eugene Azeff, the Russian secret polic spv and bclraver of the Terrorists, lied after J[. Lopukhin had denounced him to his "comrades." After hia Higlit Azeff is said to have been seen in London. With regard to SI. Lopukhin's plea that Azcll' would eventually have allowed one of the plots against the Czar to become successful. it has already been pointed out that Azeff did not tell the police everything, lie is credited with having planned the murders of SI. Je I'lehve and the Grand Duke Sergius—both of which succeeded. At the same lime, he told the police enough to send UOO revolutionaries to death—this according to the revolutionaries' testimony—and three times that number to living death in Siberia.
