HAW'ERA RACES. SECOND DAY. Favored by fair weather, though vain threatened, the second day of the E"mont winter meeting passed off verv successfully yesterday. The fields were good, and the racing generally interesting. The arrangements as usual were well organised by the secretary, Mr. Turton, and there was no hitch to mar the enjoyment. The only accident durinthe afternoon was Rangihaeta's somewhat sensational fall i n the Manawapou Hurdles', the rider, G. 'Price, sustaining a fracture of a small bone on the slioul" der. Overtime came away in the straight and won with ease by three lengths. Castiglione and Itoliopotac came fast at the finish, the latter just being displaced. Clemency was fifth and Mulga Bill sixth. Also started: Royal Youngster 9.0 (L. Nodder), Quick March 8.10 (G. Price), North East and Royal Youngster moved off from a good start, the top-weight leading the field throughout, and coming away easily in the straight, .won by two lengths. Marathon ran into second place a furlong from home, and was just beaten by the fast-finishing Montpelier for second place. Entering the straight first time Rangihaeta moved up behind Somali. and iii faking the hurdle opposite the people's stand, toppled over the rails on to the plough. Somali was ahead of Taupo and Maharanui going out of the straight, and to the back where Nova was seen coming through, Somali dropping back. Nova headed the field at the distance, and coming away from a tiring field, won comfortably by over two lengths. Overtime,* Genuine and Guiding Step moved off promptly, but were soon joined by Muskerado. Genuine __ dropped back, and Langshan moved into fourth position as Overtime began to draw away.
