A Loudon cable states that the llev. iWoolcombe, who is to tour Australia to organise tile Church of England Men's .Society, has sailed by the Ormiiz. Messrs. James Holmes, of Hokitika, and James Marshall, of Totara Flat, have (states a Press wire) been reappointed members of the Legislative Council. Mr. H. Eyre-Kenny, formerly District Judge, and '.Airs. Kenny arrived in >• enPlymouth last evening and will spend a holiday here, staying at the Imperial Hotel. Jlr. Douglas .McLean was yesterday presented by the Scotsmen of Hawke's .Bay with a portrait In oils ot himself, painted by \V. A. Doring. Reference was made to Mr. McLean's hign qualities as a public man and private citizen, and his sympathetic and practical interest in the welfare of Napier and Hawke's Bay. In responding, Mr. McLetui, who is chieftain of the Hawke's Bay iugnJand Society, referred to the advantages "of such societies in maintaining memories of one's native land and loyalty to the Mother Country.—Press wire.
