CONSUMPTIVE SANATORIUM

The Hospital and Charitable Aid Board has secured the site of 80 acres two miles south of Palni'erston South for a consumptive sanatorium. Tile cost is about £IOOO, and there are buildings on the ground which will lit into the plans of a complete building. Sufficient accommodation will he provided to answer Southland's requirements, as well as Otago's. It is also intended to provide for paying patients separate accominjbdatioii. It is hoped to make the institution self-sup-porting from the revenue of payi'Jg patients, keeping cows, etc. Speaking to a reporter to-dav. the chairman (Mr. J. H. Walker) said it was intended if possible to secure a similar country site for a benevolent institution, where more robust inmates could do a little farm -work and where all could be removed from temptations and surroundings' of city lite.
