IRONSAND AT WAITARA.

A PROSPECTIVE INDUSTRY. For some time past negotiations have been proceeding with respect to the leasing of certain portions of the sea beach on the south 'side of the Waitara river in order that the iroiisiind may be treated under a patent electric process, which is said to be giving admirable results in England. It i« now stated that Mr. J. Burgess, son of Mr. Burgess, of Ngaire. has obtained a lease from the Waitara Harbor Board of about twenty acres of the beach for a period of fourteen years, the maximum term allowed by the Harbors Act. 11he first year's rent has been paid in advance, and Mr. Burgess has, it is staled, secured the sole New Zealand rights of this patent electric process. Waitara people are very reticent regarding the matter a« yet, but those who have been taken into the confidence of the promoters, and are therefore best able to form an opinion, believe that an ironsand industry as outlined can be successfully carried on. and that it will prove a very profitbusiness, having a n important bearing on the future progress and prosperity of the district. The industry may be commenced within the year.
