There was a large gailiering of railway employees, of all branches of the Service, in tlie stationmaster's office last evening, io bid farewell to .Mr. J. J. Weir, who has been for some years clerk in tlie local goods office, and relieving officer on this section. Mr. Weir has been transferred on promotion to Tbonnlon. N t Wellington, and no finer tribute to his popularity could have been given than the heartiness of last night's gathering. Mr. Day, the station-1 master, presided, ami referred in highly coiumemlatorv terms to the manner in which Mr. Weir had always discharged his duties. On behalf of the local railway s'laff he presented him with a gold sovereign case, suitably inscribed. Tlie recipient was cheered, and was voted "a jollv good fellow" to the old. old tune. Mi\ Weir leaves for Wellington this morning.
