At a meeting of the Rille Club held on Saturday night it was .decided to hold weekly competitions during the winter mouths. It was also decided to hold an open meeting on 3rd June (Prince of

Wales' Birthday), and a good programme is to be arranged. At a meeting of the Hall Committee on Monday evening, Mr. J. Schinkel was appointed custodian of the new hall. The annual meeting for the eleclio.i of a committee is' to be held towards the end of the present month. _ A party of young fellows had an exciting experience last Tuesday evening whilst returning to Opunake from Rahotu. When turning round rather sud-

denly the axle broke and precipitated some of them to (dip ground. Fortunately no* one was hurt, and another vehicle wa; secured and the journey completed. Motor-cars are getting common on the roads about her,, now, and horses arc gradually becoming used to them. Whereas a few months ago about one nr two ears a week was the average, now scarcely a day passes without two or three cars passing through our city, and it begins to look as if the horse was doomed. Already some of our enterprising settlers are talking of motoring their milk to the factory. Football matters are very quiet here at present, although several practices have been held. The attendance has not been very encouraging. However, I supjiose the opening of the seas'on on 15th May will brighten matters up, and Rahotu will do'as they did last year—get into proper form just as the season concludes—too late.
