CHEAPEN POWER WANTED. By Telegvaph.—Press Association. Uokitika, Last Night. A public meeting 0 f miners carried a motion urging on tile Government the speedy and tavorable consideration of tile water-power regulations. The local proposal is to use the waste water running in the rivers for power, and to pump the water to the high alluvial terraces for mining opera lions. It was suggested that the Government charges were excessive, and the Department was urged lo make payments more moderate. It'live ishill'ings ]pcr horsepower would, mean .UfiOOO, which was considered altogether excessive and a bar lo capital being obtained. The amount required is .180,000 to .C 100,000, and the promoting syndicate is in a fair way to raise the. money if granted rights on reasonable terms.
