DEPUTATIONS
By Telegraph.—Pres3 Association. Auckland, Monday. A deputation of boot importers pointed out to the Hon. A. W. Hogg that the duty on certain classes of felt slippers, which could not be manufactured | locally, would cost lid or ll'/ s d, and that while a slipper with .two pieces of leather on the heel came in at Od, th e duty on a precisely similar slipper with three lifts came in at Is Od. The [j Minister promised' to secure a better 1 definition and to endeavor to arrange 1 that slippers which could not be made i in New Zealand came in at lower rates. A deputation of w]iarf workers waited on Mr. Hogg asking that immediate , relief should be compulsory in ease of accident, and that in the event of re- ,. ceiving injury from old accidents the , employer should be made liable. Mr. Hogg stated he would see that provi- . sion was made in future legislation for , immediate attention upon the occurrence of accidents, and he would give j consideration to the second request.
