WAREA. Master Stewart Cassie. aged about 10 vears. son of Mr. Alex. Cassie, of the'Xewell road, has had a very painful and serious illness for some time. On going lioini! from the Warea sports, on March lltli, in company with Mr. llearley. a competitor in the chops, his horse shied at something on the roadside, and jumped over and bumped Mr. llearlcy's horse. Mr. llearley was carrying his axe in his hand, and Cassie's -leg came in conttvet with tlie axe, sustaining a deep gash just below the knee. The injury afterwards turned to blood poisoning, and the lad was taken to the hospital, where he underwent several operations. The doctors found that the only hope was to amputate the leg above the knee, and this was done. The latest news from the hospital is that lie is not so well. The weather here this last week has been wet and cold, and the milk supply has decreased considerably. Whitehouse's travelling company paid a visit here last Wednesday niglit, but owing to the night being wet very fewturned out, only about twenty being present. The whole ■programme was gone through, however, and was very enjoyable. RAHOTU. Nominations ior the three vacant seats on the l'arihuka Road Board closed on_ Tuesday. A meeting of tlie Parihaka Board Board was held on Tuesday, when contracts were let as follows:—Kina road, 200 yds. pit metal, W. A. Thomas, 4s per yard; Pnrihaka road. 100 yds, \V. A. Thomas, 4s 3d per yard. Breaking stone. Strange and Wilson. 3s Od per yard.
