Though considerable interest appeared to bo taken in the polling throughout the city, the results of the mayoralty contest show that out of twenty-nine thousand electors on the I roll less "than fourteen thousand voted. The mayoral contest resulted: Archibald McCallum re-elected with a majority of HO over John Conolly. The total polling was 808. H. v Loughnan 3318. a NEW PLYMOUTH. i Only one ward, the west, was inter- I ested in the biennial municipal election ' yesterday, and there was little excite- f inent. Of the 391 votes recorded, Mr. 1 H. J. Gilbert topped the poll with 128 •' votes. Mr. G. W. Browne following with t 128. Mr. J. F. Hooker defeated Mr. * H. R. C'attley, a member of the late ' Council, bv the narrow margin of one ' vote, 79 to 78. Mr. Gilbert and Mr. s Hooker are new members or the Council. The poll under the Factories Act allowing certain factories to observe the weeklv half-holiday on Thursday, was carried by 195 to 83.
