There was a cross action, but objection was raised that it was filed too late. The objection was upheld. .Judgment was given for full amount claimed, with costs £5 12s. William Bayly v. H and P. K. \Vortliington (Mr. Wilkes): Plaintiff claimed to recover a chaffeutter, valued at £B, sold by defendant* to plaintiff and" alleged to be detained by defendants. Further amounts of £1 for general damages and £7 7s Od special damages were added to the claim.' Plaintiff was non- * suited.

[ believe Waitara will shortly produce an inventor, namely, Mr. A. Bow. who has the klea of improving the ordinary garden shears by serrating the edge of one of the blades, thus increasing the cutting .capacity, Mr. RoWe is applying for patent rights. I wish hint every

success in his venture. The Waitara river i,s in full flood. It % is the heaviest for several years. One house near the tennis lawns was flooded, the occupants being forced to take shelter at a neighbor's.
