BRITAIN'S NAVAL POLICY
DISCUSSED AT ROYAL COLONIAL iXSnic/l'E. Received April 22. Hl.j p.m. London, April 22. The Hoyal Colonial Institute adopted a resolution expressing grave concern at the Government's disclosures regarding, the navy, and asking tiial the prcseil year's shipbuilding programme be augmented forthwith; also thanking tlie colonies for their gallant and spontaneous offers of battleships, and welcoming Mr. Asquith's proposal for an Imperial naval conference
Sir .Tosiah Syuions strongly deprecated the condemnation of the Government's policy implied in the resolution. He declared that the navy must be the floating bulwarks of the' Empire in the Pacific equally with the Xorth Sea, and declared that Australia would pour out her treasure and blood for its maintenance. Mr. Asqtlith's suggestion of the necessity for a continuous policy was likely to deeply appeal to Australians. The resolution was passed, with a dozen dissentients.
