MEDICAL REPORT. Dr. Leatham, medical superintendent, eported that during the month of darch there had been 44 patients ad-

milted and 42 discharged. The numb?r of patients remaining in the institution was 40. There were, two cases in the aimcxe, one case of scarlet fever, and one of enteric fever in the isolation ward. There had been 24 operations. A QUESTION OF RESPONSIBILITY. The Hawera Hospital Board declined any responsibility in respect of a boy named Birkett. "This boy," wrote the secretary, "belongs to your district without doubt. He has been living for the last fifteen months at Matau. The Magistrate here refuses to have anything to, do with the case, so I could do nothing but send him hack to you." Dr. Valinthie, Inspector - General, wrote that in his opinion the Hawera Board should fairly bear the cost of maintenance. Legally, however, by section 86 of the Act, tlie New Plymouth Board would appear to be responsible, -being the Board in whose district the boy had. resided for six months..

THE BLIND BEGGAR. The Charitable Aid 'Board at Christ-

church declined liability for the expense incurred by the Taranaki Board in providing sea-passage for two persons called White. Neither the man nor his ft'ife had made application for relief there, and there was no proof that the people had resided there for the six months next before they reached Taranaki. There was uo proof of destitution, nor of these people having used these boat tickets to go to ■Lvttelton at all. The letter was referred to Dr. Valintine, upon whose advice the Board had acted in the matter. THE -MILK SUPPLY. Dr. Valintine, Inspector-General, reported that it had been found by the Health Department that the supplier of milk to the hospital was not cooling the milk sufficiently, and complaints had consequently arisen. Mr. Clemow had been adrised on the matter. '*■ - ACCOUNTS. Accounts were passed for payment: Hospital. £202 18s Od: charitable aid, £56 2s lOd. During the monjh there had been paid: Hospital. £4lO Is 4d; charitable aid. £lO3 8s 2d.
