SCHOOL COMMISSIONERS.
At the meeting of tli.' Board of School Commissioners llioiv nv.-o present: Messrs. ,1. Wade (chairman), Major, aid Simpson. The usual preliminary resolution was passed regarding Mr. ,1. Downs' application for conversion of his lease of section 215-210, New I'lymoulii, into one embodying rights of perpetual renewal. A letter was received from the Olmin Settlers' Association asking that the iinloased lands in that district might be tillered as speedily as possible. Mr. Simpson stated that he f»iind it necessary to have the several sections reported on by the Crown Laniis hanger, and consequently the upset, rentals could not be lixed until the next meeting of the Board.
Several leugthv reports bv the Hoard's Hanger (Mr. (I. W. Marciiaiit) were read and discussed at length, the prevalence of noxious weeds in certain localities causing the Commissioners much concern. The reports were adopted, and the secretary was instructed to take the necessary action, lie was also authorised to interview the Seereiarv for Education while in Wellington, with a viewto obtaining power to deal with certain small and unproductive reserves. The treasurer reported a balance of CI3I IDs 2d. lie also placed on the table the balance-sheet for the vear ended December 31, 1008, showing an income of rents of C4(i.54 Ills Od, against t11i.517 0s Id ill 1007. the increase being chielly due to the higher rentals coasequent upon renewal of leases. Subject to the papers being in order, transfers were approved of leases of section 11. block 1, Muni S.D.. 151 acres, from A. 11. Condon to Edwin Lang ami T. 11. Waters: and section S. block S, Mimi S.D., William Crumley' to Thos. E. Astwood. '
