From Onehiinga on Saturday the Tafcapuna brought 30 tons of cargo. This included 200 bags of sugar, 40 bags of lime, and 70 eases of fruit. There arc dozens of X'ew Zealanders who will feel more than a passing interest in the departure of the barque Weathersfield. the one-time regular sailing ship trader between London and New Zealand, which is about to proceed on what must be her last voyage across the seas (says Saturday's Wellington Times). This vessel, which is one of the few links connecting the sailing ship dnya witli the present age of huge steamship liners, leaves for Suva, where she is to be converted into a coal hulk for her owners, the Union Company. An uncommon type of fern- steamer ■was launched a few weeks ago at Xew-castle-on-Tyne to the order of the Swedish State Railway Department. In this case, however, the voyage will take place from Sassnitz, in Germany, to Trelleborg, in Sweden, a distance of not less than 05 nautical miles across sea which at times is very rough. The vessel is 354 ft in length by over 50ft beam, and will fot! propelled by twin-screw triple-expansion engines, supplied with steam from four large boilers working under forced draught. She is (o do the trip in four hours, and will earry the trains on two tracks on the main deck. She is luxutiously atted up for passenger accommodation.
