THE PRUNING KXIFE AT ADDIXGTOX. By Telegraph.— Press Association. Wellington, Friday. Regarding the dismissal of the men from the Addington workshops, the Railway Department states that the men being dispensed with arc employees who are put on for carrying out special work. That work lias now been completed. There had been a very large number of men employed in the workshops throughout tile Dominion in building rolling stock. The programme was now nearly completed, and the services of the men were no longer required. Xo permanent hands had been retired except under the superannuation scheme. The casual hands nowbeing dismissed were engaged for sjiecilic work and for specific periods. .Meanwhile the building programme had heen extended from time to time. The Department had been spending very large sums of money during the past year ill the manufacture of rolling stock. The work had now come to an end, and the men's services were no longer required.
