FOREST REGULATIONS.
SAW MILLERS AND CROWN LANDS. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. An Important alteration 0 f the forest regulations affecting Crown land has been gazetted. It lias been n grievance, among s&wmiHcrs that comparatively large timber areas have been secured by millera who owned small plants, anil those who went to the expense of installing machinery capable, of dealing with a large output obtained no corresponding advantage in cutting rights. t'?ider the new regulations, however, the area will depend upon the. borse-power of (lie ni'll machinery, the maximum in each mi!' of eight horse-power being M) 0 acres. There is a graduated scale rising to 1000 acre? for mills between 19 and 20 horse-power, and 1500 acres for mills of 30 horne-power and upwards. No change is made m royalty charges, ibut tho whole forest regulations have been re-drawn to bring them into ahrmony with the Consolidated Act of 1008.
