SCULLING.

THE WORLD'S CHAMPIONSHIP. Referring to Wchb challenging Aru-I for the world's sculling championship, the local Chronicle says:—"Arnst had at the time the challenge was handed in practically decided to visit Canada anil England "with the intention of fixing up matches with Durnan and Parry, but so far as is known neither of these two have so far issued a bona lide challenge, whereas rule fj of (lie conditions governing the smiling championship of the world states that '» holder of the championship must accept a "bona lido" challenge within three (II) months, and must race, within si* (li) months of the acceptance of the challenge, or forfeit his title, unless he has to row in another country, when the limit shall be nine (!)) months.'"

The Chronicle lms but little doubt that Arnst will be only too willing to accept the challenge, but such acceptance will almost certainly prevent his visiting Canada and England this year. As he had intended to compete for the Nugget Polii-.li Company's £SOO prize on the Thames, and as Barry had oU'ered him £l5O expenses for a match, the monetary sacrifice may be considerable, but unless Barry's or Durnan's deposit has already been paid to some reputable person, he canflot hut accept the local man's challenge. Speculation will be rife as to where the proposed match will ■eventuate, but as Arnst has the choice of selection, the public must look to the champion for information in this respect. Arnst was very much impressed with the suitability of the course the last ran- was rowed over, but as he «aid when here, "I will go where the. most money is to be obtained." it is not improbable that, he will insist thnt the race be rowed in Australia.
