AMUSEMENTS.

"THE GAY HUSSAR." A maze of ludicrous situations on the. stage, an almost continuous ripple of laughter, varied by boisterous roars of the same commodity from the audience, sprightly and attractive music, effective scenery and a wealth of gorgeous dressing, a good night's hearty enjoyment—these are the memories -of '-The flay Hussar' as presented last night by the popular .Pollards. The niece has a story; it crops up every now and again merely to connect tin- fun. Tt's a piece tlia.t has to In; played, and it was played. The bulk of the humor was supplied by Master Bert Nicholson, as "Bobs." an officer's servant, au<t a highly nervous, stammering, well-meaning but awkward parson, the "Rev. Algy," whose, peculiarities were 'well portrayed by Mr. 'Cluirles Albert. He was fun from first to last. The bono of contention, if the term may be used, was a wealthy young lady. Enid Marmont (Mies Minnie Top•ping), who is marked out by the impecunious Lord t'uilfail (Mr. Ernest Behatz), tar ward, as a suitable wife for his son Algy. Hut the gods, and the girl, willed'otherwise; hence the I troubles, awl hence the two and a-half hours' fun. Two other characters whose work deserved special mention were .those of Numi Ninni San (Miss May Topping) and Mary Louisa (a coster L'irl). The solos and choruses and the singing generally were quite up to the standard of the Pollard*' reputation, which is sufficient praise. Playgoers will welcome a return visit from tills delightfully entertaining company.
