Lord Dudley subsequently, in proposing the henllh of the president, 5.1,1 ue wished to point out that agreat thingon oecnsions like these was to avoid, if possible, placing anyone in a difficult position. The Commonwealth .Ministers were his advisers, and as lie expected iii,s advisers to he loyal to him, so be hoped alwavs to he loyal to them. It mattered not to him who was ill power, whether Liberal, Labor, or any other section, ic would be loyal to them and expected them to he loyal to him. lie hoped on occasions of this sort that political allusion, either regarding the Federal or State' Governments, would be avoided, lie wanted to make it clear that be could only sit at gatherings where this rule was' observed.
