DEPARTURE OF THE NIMROD.
AN APPRECIATION. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Christchureh, Last Night. An effort is being made to get the Nimrod ready for sea. bv to-morrow night. The vessel has to take in about inn tons of bunker coal, and, providing this can be got on board in time, the vessel will sail for Sydney to-morrow night. At a meeting of the Kaiapoi llorough Council the following motion was carried:—"That this council expresses its admiration of the splendid work done by tho Antarctic expedition under Lieutenant Shaekleton, more particularly with regard to its reaching the magnetic po'le, the ascent of Mount Erebus, and the achievement of rcachiu a point within !lT miles of the South Pole, and that this council, as voicing the, feelings of the district, traders its hearty congratulations to Lieutenant Shaekletou and his comrades on their magnificent achievements."
