OUR CITY FATHERS.

IMI'EXDJXU CHANGES. Ratepayers are beginning to evhice a little, a very little, interest in the forthcoming elections of their representatives on t"i! tforougb. Council. There will be several jihici'i to (ill, as several lamiliar facvs will disappear from the Council meeting.

THE MAYORALTY. There will probably be uo mayoral content. At the request of his colleagues on the Council, Mr. G. Tiseh has consented to accept olliee for another term, although lie had made up his mind to rvlirr. It is doubtful il Sew Plymouth bonis a man who could oust our present .Mayor from his honorable position. Having ample leisure and abundant energy, he has made himself very popular with the people, taking a real, Mve interest in the development of the town and its natural scenic attractions. THE COUNCIL.

There will be at least four of the present councillors retiring from office. Theso aro Councillors Collis, Mills, Morey and Coleman. Councillor Collis at present bears the mantle of the "father of the Council," having served the people for somewhere about flttoen years. The other retiring councillors have not long occupied seats at the Council table. It is possible that Councillor Boon will also escape the ties of office. That is his expressed intention, but several ratepayers intend to make an effort to retain him on the Council.

Councillors Bellringer and West are definitely "out," not having received any hint to the contrary at the hands of their constituents. Councillors Browne aud Cattley are in the same , category. Thus there will be one vacancy to be "filled in the west ward (vice Cr. Morey), two in the central (vice Crs. Collis and Mills) and possibly two in the east (vice I Ore. Coleman and Boon). PROBABLE CANDIDATES.

The names of Jlessrs E. Dockrill and P. E. Wilson are mentioned in connection with the cast ward seats, and both have been approached.

For the west ward the names of Messrs H. J. Gilbert and J. Clarke are freely mentioned, and there is talk cf presenting requisitions. There is one other possible starter in this event, but as yet he has not made up his mind, and does not wish his name mentioned. We have heard of no candidates suggested for the central ward.
