RESOURCES OF BURMA.

Auckland, March 31. According to Mr C. C. MacMillan, a prominent ex-Aucklander, who has just returned from an extended lour abroad, the tea industry in Ceylon is in a very nourishing state. He informed a pressman that lands I here suitable for teagrowing have advamed to CIOO pelacre. Planters are also going in for rubber ill Ceylon, where the industry is expected to'be a very large one when the trees have matured. Referring to Burma, Mr MacMillan said there was no place where a young man with capital was so likely to do well in that country. There are enormous petroleum beds there, vast forests of teak, and, in addition, rubber is being largely planted. Mr MacMillan went up the Irfawaddy river as far as Mandalay, and said lie was much impressed by tile great wealth of the country. Steamers were continually passing laden with produce, and no one could have any idea of the resources of the country. Beyond Bnhmo he. came across a syndicate managed by New Zcalanders, dredging for gold, and getting good results, despite the fact that owing to the Hoods dredging was only possible for six months in the year. This syndicate had obtained large concessions from the Government.
