ItAHOTU, (From Our Own Correspondent.) The annual meeting of the Raliotu ItiHc Club took place at Mr. Baker's boarding-house on Saturday night last. There was a good attendance of members. Mr. J. Colmer presided. Tlie report aaid balance-sheet showed that after expending over £3O on a new range tlie club will have a balance in hand of Is Gd. The new range is a splendid one and a great improvement. Officers were elected as follows: —President, Mr. J. Colmer; treasurer, Mr. J. Guy; secretary, Mr. H. Baker. Those three were also elected a selection committee, and with the addition of Messrs., J. Christian, J. Young, J. Shepherd and I J. Rpthery a general committee. Mr. I A. Baker was reappointed handicapper i and accorded a hearty vote of thanks I for past services. Mr. A. Chapman,.' "who has been secretary for some time! past, could not take the position for this year. We were rather surprised to note that 110 members of the Raliotu Rifle Club were chosen for the match Riile Clubs v. Volunteers at Kltham, on Wednesday last. Judging by the success of our local club iu matches, they should surely have nt least one member capable of shooting in any company.
As Mr. and -Mrs. Minnear and family were driving in from Pungarehu to the bazaar at Rahotu, they had an accident that might easily have had serious resuits. The liauie-straji broke as the trap was proceeding up lull, with the iv-sult that the vehicle tipped over and shot all the occupants out on to the road. Fortunately no one was injured. A quiet wedding took place at the residence of tlie bride's father, Moutoti, nn Wednesday afternoon, when Miss M. McCall. daughter of Mr. McCall, was united in matrimony to Mr. 11. Fischer, of Pihama. The bride, who "was given away hr her father, was attended by two sisters as bridesmaids, Misses N. and M. McCall. Mr. W. Holmes, nephew of the bridegroom, acted as best man. Rev. McArthur officiated. After tlie ceremony the guests partook of a sumptuous wedding breakfast. The presents to the young couple were both numerous and valuable.
Raholu presented quite a gala appearance on Anniversary Day, the city being gav with bunting. The main item of interest here was the opening of the new hall. Heavy rain set in on Monday, ami a party who ascended the mountain 011 Sunday had a rather trying time, being unable to return until Tuesday. Moun-tain-climbing is now over for' tliis season, unless we have a good spell of warm weather, as the snow is quite low at present. Mr. Dive, M.P., in tile course of his remarks at the opening of the hall, stated that when lie was elected he found that a sum of £SOO was 011 the estimates for the erection of a post office-at Rahotu. He Imd made inquiries into this, and was backed up by a petition from the settlers in tliis district. He was pleased to say tnat the latest reply he had received was that the Public Works Department had been instructed to prepare plans, and lie hoped when he returned again to Raliotu the post office would he an established faet. Detective Boddam lias been a visitor to these parts during the past few days. At tlie meeting of the Christian Endeavour Society on March 31st a presentation was made to Mr. E. Taylor and Miss M. Layboum, who intend' entering the bonds of matrimony shortly. The presentation, which took'the forin of a handsome clock, suitable iiwribed was made by Rev. Hirclinll. 'Mr Taylor siu ably responded for Miss Lavbourn and himself.
