COMMERCIAL.
LONDON WOOL SALES. Dalgety and Co., Ltd., report having received the following cable message from th.'ir London house, under date of the 26th inst.:—"Wool sales closed firm. Since our last wire prices are as high as at any period of last series for wools generally. Greasy super merinos are from par to 5 per cent, higher, other descriptions of merinos a per cent, to 111 per cent, higher. Advances are ehiclly on medium and good qualities. Crossbred wools, line quality, are ID per cent, to 12 per cent, higher, medium quality 5 per cent, to 7'/» per cent, higher, and coarse quality par to 5 per cent, higher. The total net quantity aiaikible amounted to 196,060 bales, ii./iuiiing 10,000 bales not offered last series, and of this quantity 18,000 bales were sold to America, 69,000 bales to the Continent, and 86,000 for home consumption, leaving 13,000 bales to be carried iorward to May series.
WOOL, SKIN, HIDE AND TALLOW , SALE.
Messrs. L. A. Nolan and Co. report: — We held our wool, hide, skin and tallowsale this month on March 17th. Wo had a good catalogue, hides particularly being in fine condition, owing, no doubt, to the weather and to the fact that a lot were held over from last month, there being no sale in February, owing to date fixed clashing with the Wellington wool sale. Competition was keen and well sustained through the whole catalogue.
Hides—All hides showed a very marked appreciation in values, particularly in h«avie6 of all sorts. Calfskins sold at about last month's rates.
Skins—We had the usual catalogue, and in sympathy with outside markets advanced appreciably, particularly pelts.
Tallow—Casks showed au advance of from 10s to 15s per ton. Wool—Competition was keen, and we cleared our catalogue under the hammer. We quote:— ■
Hides—Butchers' cow, light w'.id to a%d, medium 0 5 / s d to 6d, lieavv Gd to 6%d, extra heavy G%d; ox, light Od, medium 6'/ s d to 6%d (no lieav. offering); settlers' cow 4'/ 3 d to s'id, ox 4%d, bulls' yearlings' 5d to 5%d; horses 7s 9d to 8s 9d.
Calfskins—Sound o%d to BVi.il, cut 5%d, slippy 4%d. Sheepskins—Dry wool, best 6d to os Id; pelts, salted. Is 3d to 2s Sd; Jambs' Is Sd to 2s Ud. Wool—Bales: Crossbred fi!/»d to id, Lincoln 5%d to 6d, mixed bales V4d to 5%d. Bags: Crossbred 5%d to (iV4d. mixed fleese a'/jd to (id, clotted anil htarned 3V4d to sy»d, lambs' ."i'.id to (id, pieces 2d to 3VS>d, locks 2d to 2'/id, bellies 3d to 3%d, daggings V4J to '/-.d. Tallow —Casks 22s fld to 23s Od; tins 20s 9d to 22s 3d. Sundries at recent rates.
