FIRES.

About I o'clock this morning, while the wintry storm was sweeping over the citv, a fixe broke out ill a boardingliouse "in Tararfaki Place, owned by the Hon. T. W. Hisl»p, and occupied by Wm. ißrown, who had between thirty and forty boarders living with him. They Jost everything except the attire they escaped in. The building was destroyed, and much damage was also done to John Digg and Co.'s chocolate and confectionery factory. During the strenuous light to prevent the lire demolishing the whole block, which was in the heart of the city, several firemen received minor injuries. The hoarding-house was insured for £SOO in the Commercial Union and ,£SOO in the Liverpool, London and Globe. The contents were insured for £SOO in the New Zealand office. Rigg's premises are insured for £1250 in the Commercial Union and £250 iu the Standard. The contents arc insured for £4OOO in various offices. Gisbornc, Last Night.
A fire broKe out in Gladstone road to-night before 7 o'clock in a millinery establishment, Wellington House, occupied by Mrs, Loohs. The large stock was entirely ruined, and the building putted. TJie adjoining shop, occupied by Andrews, bootmaker, was saved by the brigade, though the stock was consider* ably damaged by water. The wooden building containing the two shops was owned by James Mawhinney, and was insured, with fitting?, for £IOOO in the Guardian office. Mb. Loohs' stock was insured for -£,llOO in the State office and .€750 in the South British. Andrews' stock was insured for £SOO in the London and Lancashire.
