ASIIM'KTON'S MAIiATJIO.N' KACE. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Ashburton, Last Night. The New Zealand Marathon Race front liakaia to Ashburton Domain, a distance of 18 miles 154 yards, run under tiie auspices of the Ashburton Amateur Cycling and Athletic Club, was decided here to-day in very trying heat. Twenty-two nominated and eignteen started, including some of the bestknown distance men of the Dominion, (luv lloskins was scratched. The placed men were practically lending all the way, and the first two linished strongly, the result being: Miles Dickson tOliristichiireh), llir. 'Slimin. HM-osec, lirst; S. J. Moore (Ashburton), 2hr. lmin. 20 see., second; \V. K. Simpson, 2hr. Bmin. oO 1-asce., third. Half tlte competitors did not finish, and the placed men were the only ones who qualified for the sealed handicap in connection with tlte race, the time limit having expired before any of the others had linished.
