The Taranaki Education Board con-1 tinued its monthly meeting yesterday morning. TEACHERS' SELECTION COMMITTEE. The Teachers' Selection Committee reported upon applications received for positions advertised, aud recuuiuiendcd that the following names be 'lorwurdeu to committees interested : Central, assistant mistress, £133 (0 applicants) : Miss H. K Dempsey Do, Miss A. F. Crawford D, Alias C. F. Smith D, Miss E. R. G, Messenger D, Masterton) . West End, assistant mistress, £l2O (seven applicants) : -Miss E. Rowutree Do, (Ma'noe), Miss C. F. Smith D, Miss A. C. I. Westrupt C (Wellington). Stratford D.H.S., first male assistant, £240, (sixteen applicants) : J. Cartwright C. 2, (Woouville); A. C. McLean, C2, (Otago) ;J. W. Bird: The committee recommended that fresh applications be called for both headmaster and assistant.

Mr Morion moved that the architect be requested to report upon the charges niaile for material supplied in connection with repairs to the tipper and Lower Kent, Auiei't, Kahotu, and Turala schools, and that the accounts be held over.—Mr Trimble seconded, and the motion was carried. In the discussion it was pointed out that lead-headed nails were charged at 4'/,d per lb, pipes at prices varying from Is 4d each for 3-inch to Is 2d per foot for 4-inch, and timber at very hign rates, which llic mover declared were "out of all reason." Mr Trimble reported having visited Bird road and inspected the minutebook. lie formed the opinion mat the committee had ceased to exist, and called a meeting of householders. The meeting'was held 011 Monday last, 4(i householders being present. From 14 candidates the fallowing committee was elected : Messrs W. Rogers, J. Boyle, 1. Calseldine, J. Rogers, J. Crowe, H. Bowling, and M, T. Phillips, A WORKING OVERSEER. It was decided to tiuvtmoe for a working overseer at a salary of £225 per annum, applications to be iu by the 24th April. RESIGNATIONS.
Resignations were accepted : Miss A. Bollinger, assisting Board's Office; West End, Miss M. Potts ; Ccutra'l, Miss B. Black ; Stratford, Mr J. Hunter ; Pukeho, Mr J. Sullivan ; Lincoln, Mrs Kennedy ; Waitara, Miss Edwards. Tile usual steps will be taken to iiill tiie vacancies. URUTI SCHOOL. Mr Donald Eraser will be informed in answer to his memo or thu istli inst. that the charges he brings against the teacher of the Uruti school having ibeen inquired into by the Uruti school committee the Board docs not see any necessity of taking action. The Uruti committee and Mr. Eraser will be informed that the school door has no right to be locked during school hours, and that the Inspector has not piven authority to the teacher to lock it. MISCELLANEOUS MATTERS. Mr 11/ L. Betts notified his intention of terminating his tenancy of an education reserve at Stratford.—Referred to tile Reserves Committee, together with the application of Rev. J. il. Thomson for the section.
Authority was given for painting shelter-shed at Koru school.
Miss Brabant, pupil teacher at the Waitara school, was granted a mouth's leave of absence in accordance with medical certificate.
The Hoard passed a vote of sympathy with tlie relatives of Mr J. E. Gilliver, teacher of Tongaporutu school, in their sad bereavement.
Mr S. Wylie wrote surrendering his son's senior scholarship, in consideration of the Board having granted travelling allowance to his daughter, a scholarship holder. Mr Oscar Johnson, headmaster at the l'itzroy school, wrote "In the edition of the morning paper giving an account of the Board's recent meeting, it was reported that part of my letter, was received with laughter and 'chat'.' Will you kindly inform me vkcli.cr the proceedings were reported correctly or not 1" The chairman saad that it would seem that in future the members must retain long faces, and conduct the busi ncss as solemnly as a funeral.—lt was decided to acknowledge receipt ol the letter.
The l'itzroy committee wrote that the sanitary arrangements: at the school were unsatisfactory, aanl that the Health Officer had expressed, great dissatisfaction with them.—The committee will be informed that there is 110 new matter arising out of the application, and the Board liad previously done all that it considered necessary ill 1 the matter.
Mr U, Y.,S. Griffiths (Sanderson and Gritliths), Board's architects, forwarded 11/ lengthy explanation of the untidv and dirty condition of the Pukeho anil Purangi scliaols, upon completion. He had refusid to pass the contracts until the. buildings were thoroughly cleaned, and received an assurance that the sun-con-tractors had been instructed to attend to the matter. Upon a man being sent out he found the school had already been cleaned. The contractor was willing to compensate the settlers for the trouble and expense they had been put to.—lt was decided that the , £1 deducted from Mr Bond oir the Pukeho school contract for cleaning the school be handed over to the Pukeho school committee.
The appointment of Messrs Brake and Pennington to the Ngaire committee, vice Messrs Lee and Norton, was confirmed.
