CRICKET.
THE AUSTRALIAN' EUiVEN. Melbourne, March 24. The Australian eleven has departed for England. It had a great send-off. THE INGLEWOOD CLUB. A smoke concert was held at Inglewood on Monday evening by the local cricketers to celebrate their dual win of the senior and junior teams in the past season, when both the cup and shield were brought to Inglcwood. Mr. W. E. Percival, president of the club, occupied the chair. The chairman, in proposing the toast of the evening " The Champion Cricket Club of Taranaki for the year 1908-9," eulogised the wtirk done by the Inglewood senior and junior teams in bringing about so nappy an event as domiciling both cup and shield in Inglcwood for the year. The teams had also done exactly what they ought—they had prevented anything like a one-man show, and the teams were practically without tails, aud if one man could not get away there was always another who came to light to fill the place.
Presentations were made as follows: — To Mr. Harris, bat, for best bowling average; Mr. O'Byrne, a bat, for valuable services rendered; Mr W. Matthews, framed photographic enlargement of the team, also for services rendered; Mr. McCurd, a pipe, for " the safe conveyance of the teams"; Mr. Crombie, a pipe, for top scoring; Mr. James, tobacco pouch, " successful mascottc."—Abridged from Record.
