AUCKLAND TO INVERCARGILL.
| THE NEW EXPRESS SERVICES;. WELLINGTON TO NEW PLYMOUTH EXPRESS ACCELERATED,
By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. The accelerated express train services to come into operation on April let have been finally arranged. The express now , leaving Cliriatchurch at 8 a.m. takes 15 hours 5 minutes to reach Invercargill. Under the new arrangement thi* is cut down to 13 hours 10 minutes, by cutting *out about a dozen of the stops. On the northward journey the express, will be timed as follows at the more Important towns: Invercargill depart 6.15. a.m., Gore 7.34, Clinton 8.30, Balclutha. 9.52, Dunedin 11.15, Oamaru 2.38 p.m, Timaru 4.17, Temuka 4.38, Ashburtoa 5.53, Rakaia 0.25, Christehureh (arrive) 7.27. Going south the train will leave at 8 a.m. as at present, arrive at Oamaru 1*2.47 p.m., and Dunedin 4 o'clock (instead of 5.8), reaching invercargill at 9.30 p.m. On Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays the express from the south will Ins able to connect at Lyttelton with tho Maori for Wellington, but on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays the Mararoa, which Jills the gap between the islands, will not be able to connect with tlu> North Islund expresses if its departure is delayed, so that the only connection will be that furnished from Dunedin, catching the steamer at about 6.30 p.m. In the North Island, under tho present arrangement, there is some difficulty in making the connection with the--7.30 a.m. cypress for New Plymouth, and the Railway Department has arranged tliat this train shall be put back to 8.15 a.m., thus giving ample time for tiletransfer of passengers and baggage. A few small stops have been eliminated from the time-table, ami the express willconsequently reach New Plypouth at its. usual time, 8 p.m.
