BOROUGH COUNCIL.

Tlic Borough Council met last night. There were present: His Worship the Mayor (Mr. U. Tisch), Councillors Boon, Coleman, Bellringor, West, Collis, Mills, Morey and Browne. The following reports were adopted:ADATiOHI COMMITTEE.

That the agreement with Messrs. Sole Bros., drawn by the borougii solicitors, embodying the arrangements already made with them for the removal of condemned stock from the abattoir and oll'al be approved, and that.the borough seal be allixed to the agreement and the same signed by his Worship the -Mayor and Councillor Cattley on behalf of the council. That a filial payment of C4Ol Hs Bil lie made to Messrs.'-MacEwan and Co., Ltd., in connection with the chilling room and other work at the'abattoir. Thai tenders be called for the slaughtering of cattle, etc., at the abattoir in accoiMance with the spi'ciliealions prepared by the borough engineer. BATHS COMMITTEE.

That in view of the lateness of the season and the time-table having been circulated, the committee have no recommendation to make with reference to the petition to extend the early morning hours for ladies. WORKS COMMITTEE.

That Lieut.-Coloncl Okey be informed that the Council is not aware tw -y of tlic Council's contractors have been taking boulders from the rifle range side ol' the Waiwakaiho liiver, and that if this lias ever been done il has been directly contrary to the instructions of the Council. That consideration of the letter from M. Maher. borough carter, making a charge of espionage on the part, of one of the workmen, be deferred until next Wednesday evening to enable an inquiry to be inaile by the Council as a whole'into the mailer, and that any of the workmen who may so desire be permitted to give evidence at the inquiry. That the question of Leach Street deviation lie left in tlic hands of Ids Worship the Mayor and the borough solicitors to take such steps as may he necessary for the protection of Hie Council. That, consideration of the letter from the Carrington Bond Hoard re the, condition of the lower end of Mill Road be deferred to enable the committee to view the locality. authorised to repair the footpath on the east side of l.iardet Street from Devon Street lo dill Street. That the by-pass having been completed, the borough engineer lie authorised to take the earliest opportunity of cleaning out the filters and the reservoir. Twenty-one ratepayers anil'residents drew attention to the badly-lighted slate of Morley Street, from Barrett Street to Vivian Street, making Irnll'ic dangerous to pedestrian,. The unfinished state of the street and want of defined footpaths made the street still more dangerous. ■ They asked that two electric

lights be installed between these points. Attention was also drawn to the dange:--
