GIRLS' "YEOMANRY."
I A morel irregular force U being raised in London by Captain E. C. Baker, as an offshot of his Islington Drill Brigade. It is a nurses' division, is styled the First 'Aid Nursing Yconinnij voipt, ana is divided into two troops, but arrangements iiave already been made to start a third. The corps now number forty (officers and troopers, and there arc plenty of girls lircd with military zeal Who are ready to join. It is expected that the corps will take a prominent part in next year's tournament. A wellknown titled lady recently joined the corps, and has taken rank as a lieuteniint.~~Each troop has two lieutenants, a Droop sergeant-major, lion-commis-jl stoned officers, and signallers. The two lieutenants in charge of a troop are daughters of the late Colonel Grenall. It is not intended that they should he tfully trained nurses. Their province is to render first aid to the wounded until the base hospital staff arrives. They would follow the fighting line as closely as possible, and do what they could for the men on the spur of the moment. Wounded men sometimes have to wait liours before the hospital staff reaches them, and often lives could be saved by prompt attention. The girls are tangnt to ride out carrying their nursing kit. They ride side-saddle, but they are able to mount and dismount without help. Arriving at a case, one girl dismounts, and another remaining in the saddle liolds the free horse. If. after attention, the wounded man is able to sit on a •horse, he is placed in the nurse's saddle. and the other nurse conducts him back. (returning afterwards to her comrade. Pome of the girls have loarnt flag signalling, and in this way they are able to summon more assistance when it is needed.
