An echo of tile slaughterhouse strike occurred yesterday, when a. number of men 'whose lines remain unpaid received notice from their employers that they had heen instructed by the Inspector of Awards to withhold all wages due to 'them pending the extinction of their liabilities. The men intend to interview the Premier and raise the point whether a penalty imposed under tie old Arbitration Act can to enforced under the subsequent Act.

WORK IN QUEENSLAND. Wellington, Last Night. The latest contribution towards the controversy regarding the scarcity or otherwise of bricklayers in Queensland is a letter received by the Trades and Labor Council here from the Brisbane Bricklayers' Union. This states that there is some work there at present; but there are bricklayers out of work. Members of the Brisbane Union arc determined to get all bricklayers to join theii 1 'union. This is one of the employers' reasons for tryin'g to flood the market preparatory to an attempt to get wages reduced from 12s to •Us per day. The Union warns the brickhivers to keep away from Brisbane.
