From Wellington yesterday morning the Takapuna brought 151 tons of cargo. Intluded in this were 470 bags of salt, 50 wises of benzine, 80 bags of, rice, and 60 sacks of potatoes. The Rotoiti brought 33 tons of cargo (from Onehunga; yesterday morning* This included 280 bags of sugar and 53 oaeea of 'fruit. Captain Dreiritte has assumed command of the Rotoiti, vice Captain R. G. Bell, who has joined the harbormaster's staff at Auckland. ' Awfcy in the north of 'Auckland a. miniature shipping •war is raging. The company who have for years sent the only trading steamers from Heleasville to Dargaville and up the- North Wairoiij river were threatened with extinction by a. rival steamer built specially for the trade. The old company responded to the challenge by taking passengers, to Dargaville, a distance of sixty miles, for the nominal fare of one shilling.. How long th* fight lean last is a matter for conjecture.
