ALLEGED SlA' UKOUStXUXU. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Cliristchurch, Saturday. A tobacconist and hairdresser, named >\V. J. ForsytlH', was charged at the I'olice Court today with having sold alcoholic liquor to Lawrence MctJill on March 2nd. The case for the prosecution was that McGill and another man named Hayes went to accused's shop after the hotels were closed, and on asking for something to drink each got » glass of whisky, for winch they paid one shilling. The accused stated that ho gave the men bay rum instead of whisky and charged them the amount named for it. The magistrate said he was not mitisficd with the evidence, especially that given by Hayes, and dismissed the case. i

At the Eltham Magistrate's Court on .Saturday, William Albert Hansen, one of the foremen of the Eltham County Council, was brought up on a charge of having obtained from the Eltham County Council, by means of false pretract's, the sum of £lO lis 9d. Constable Wade said he had not yet had time to go fully into the matter, but this was only one of a series of charges that would be brought against accused. There were, he said, further sums involved, probably amounting to £l4oj therefore he would ask for a remand until Monday, the 22nd inst. The remand was granted as requested by the police. Accused said he could not understand the thing at all, and did not know why he was arrested. He had not been able to see any friends, and asked that he should be admitted to hail. Bail was granted in accused's own recognisance of £l5O and two sureties of £75 each. Bail was forthcoming. The matter was discussed by the Eltham County Council the same morning, when it was decided to suspend the accused and to retain moneys due to him in suspense. The question of making other arrangements for the payment nAho men in futuro was referred to the Kimince Committee. The total amount involved was stated to be about £140.—• Argus. ,
