F. Whitcombe. Judge llasehlou, who had been obviously nettled by a number of the appellant's remarks', interrupted him by saving: "Does il not strike you as the height of folly to come here and impugn the honesty and integrity of a District Court .ludge and two men, one representing the higher grade and one the intermediate grade of the service * Do you suppose we know anything about Mr Whitcombe and could be influenced :or biased in any way ¥* The appellant replied that lie had not intended to convey that meaning, but he had in mind a' case where, when a man had been superseded, it was held lo be out of the Court's jurisdiction. .ludge Haselden. said that he was not certain now how that matter should ho determined. If the Hoard was utile to give a decision on the merits of the case. il would do what it thought right, lie reallv believed that the appellant believed in the honesty of tile. Court, bemuse •lie would not be so foolish In saying things if lie did believe that he would not suffer by saying tliem. "The only way you can suffer," added His Honor. '•'• is by the impression your sayings make 'on our mind that such a man as you are, with such a want of judgment, would not be a good guard foe a passenger train."
