BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The following reports will lie presented at to-night's meeting of the New Plymouth Borough Council:— WORKS COMMITTEE.

Tluit on Mr. Andrews submitting the usual plan the borough engineer be authorised lo grant him a permit to erect a verandah to Hiss Gledhill's store in Eliot Street, the width to be 12ft.; tlat Mr. S. Breach's letter re blocked drain at Leach Street be referred to the borough engineer to deal with; that the old railway lino from Leach Street to the borough boundary, recently acquired as a street, be named Leach Street; that the letter from Mr. J. Abbott re alteration in Devon Street East lie referred to tho borough engineer to deal with; that Mr Buckman and others oe informed that the Council cannot see its way to make any alteration to the Mill Road bridge; that consideration of Messrs. Boon Bros.' application for permission to erect a screen in the back yard of the Star Cafe be deferred until the Committee view the site; that tenders be invited for the annual supplies in accordance with the specifications prepared by the borough engineer; That Mr. C. Wright be informed that the borough engineer reports that the cost of elleeting the suggested improvements iu Pendarves Street will cost £4O. and the Council regret being unable lo see their way to authorise this 'expenditure; that the question of a concrete culvert at Holison Street, between Courtemiy Street and Lemon Street, be referred to the favourable consideration of the Estimates Committee; that a further progress pay-, ment of £SO be made to Messrs. T. I and It Parkin for haulage of beach gravel; that the borough engineer be authorised to have the Henui Bridge painted; that the owners of all properties having hose or hose taps be charged 3s per annum if within the borough and 5s per annum outside of tho borough (hose for washing down shop windows only to be exempted); that the borough engineer be authorised to purchase 25 sacks of oats from Nolan and Co. at 2s per bushel as per sample submitted; that the tender of Mr. J. 11. ltaglev for the sanitary contract be accepted; that all properties where tile water rate has "not been paid be disconnected from the mains. tl-liCi'KiC LIU-HI CUMMiTIJiK. A llanie arc lamp at Ariki and Eguiont Streets,' And another at King and Brougham Streets would be a great improvement, and these with the two lamps in St. Aubyn Street would make a new circuit, and all the lamps in the centre of the town would be llamc lamps, this section, being the part of the town first seen by viators, should be, if possible, well lighted.
