FIRES.
I IN' I'AIjMERSTOX south. Uy Telegraph.—Press Association. Thmedin, Hist Night. A serious tire occurred at FalmorsUin South about one o'clock this morning, five business places being destroyed. SI' 0 ! 1 * occupied by J.TT. Appleby, fancy goods seller and photographer,"and by K. L. Burt, baker and confectioner, were with their contents completely destroyed. The former shop was owned by Lawson's estate, and the latter by Ja.s. Arkle, Dunedin. Crisp's (solicitors office), owned by Lawson's estate, Dalftety's stove, and the Clovernment Stock Inspector's office were also destroyel, I but the contents were saved. The fire started ill Appleby's shop, but tliero is no clue as to it« origin. Water was turned off at the reservoir, and nil hour elapsed before it was available, jfost of ilie members of the Fire Brigade were nwav at Auckland. Xotlihig is vet available as to insurances.
